Organising a christening in Rome: tips from the Consolini Restaurant

christening in Rome

How to organise a christening in Rome and create a memorable day without forgetting anything?

I am Arianna Consolini, and I have been running the Consolini Restaurant with my family for over 30 years. A location that has hosted numerous christenings, communions and confirmations. For me it is an honour and a great satisfaction to put my experience at the service of people.

We all know that christening is a Christian sacrament of great importance and symbolic significance, linked to rebirth and entry into the Christian community. But it is also a special day for the whole family, relatives and close friends, because it represents one of the most beautiful moments in life.

If you are a new mother or father, you will certainly have a lot of new things to think about, so I have come up with a mini-guide for you on the steps to take during the organisation, in the hope that it will be useful.

The ideal checklist for organising a christening in Rome

Organising a christening may seem like a challenging task, but I assure you that if you keep the following 6 steps in mind, everything will go perfectly. Which steps for flawless planning are we talking about? Let’s look at them together.

1. Choose the date and place: the first thing to do is to choose the date and place of the event: normally, christenings take place in the first three months after the birth, but you can choose to bring it forward or postpone it according to your preferences. As a rule, the church for the event is that of your parish of residence, but you can also choose another diocese. After the celebration, you can organise the reception at a restaurant, a farmhouse or an event hall.

My advice is to find a restaurant that can offer the ideal solution according to the number of guests.

At the Consolini Restaurant, for example, we have the Testaccio room that can accommodate up to 60 people and can be booked exclusively. If the christening takes place from May onwards, choose our roof top room on the third floor, which can accommodate up to 100 guests exclusively (but don’t worry, you can also book a small table here!).

Ps: if you are looking for a location in the centre of Rome, think also about the possibility of parking: at the Consolini Restaurant we have a private car park available and we know the added value it has for our guests!

2. Plan the ceremony: if the christening takes place in a church, you should plan the religious ceremony with the priest. Ask about the rites and traditions of christening and the options for personalisation. Also essential is the choice of godfather and godmother, who will accompany your child on this journey.

3. Invite guests: Invite your guests well in advance to allow them to plan their schedule. Send a formal or informal invitation and be sure to provide all the necessary information, such as the date, time, location and directions on how to reach the venue. Take advantage of our support in preparing graphics for the invitations.

4. Choose the menu: if you are organising a post-ceremony party, decide what to serve your guests. You can choose to have lunch or dinner. Choose the menu that best suits your needs and budget, and check if there are options for guests with special dietary requirements.

Consolini Restaurant offers Italian seafood cuisine, but we also have traditional Roman dishes and meat dishes. In this way we can cater for all palates, including those with food intolerances or those who have to abide by religious rules.

5. Customise the party: decide on the theme, colour and objects you want to use to decorate the location, tables, etc.. Balloons, ribbons, flowers and personalised place cards are a must. They are always appreciated by the guests and immediately create an atmosphere of welcome and participation.

I will be happy to put the experience I have accumulated during the many receptions held at the restaurant at your service: from the choice of floral decorations, table settings, advice on favours, to the scenic cake for the ritual photos.

6. Enjoy the christening: on the day of the event, make sure you enjoy the christening in Rome, interact with your guests, take photos and create unforgettable memories. Impress your guests and give yourself authentic emotions. Ps: if I may, my last piece of advice is to call a video maker who can capture the emotions of that day in video content: it will be a beautiful memory for you and all your guests.
